R. Clyde is a music publisher specializing (though not to the total exclusion of other composers!) in the works of Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900)-the leading English composer of the Victorian era.
Our current emphasis is on the composer's non-Gilbert works, as the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire is well catered for by other publishing houses. Our Sullivan output can be divided into three main areas:-
(1) SULLIVAN EDITION
Of primary importance, the SULLIVAN EDITION is an ongoing scholarly edition based
on the original
autograph manuscripts and authentic first editions whose printing
was supervised by the composer himself.
Each volume presents the work exactly as Sullivan wrote it-for instance, the operas, oratorios, cantatas and orchestral works in full score.
Each volume-which is available in either a hardback library edition or a more economical softback edition-has an informative Preface discussing the creation and performing history of the work, and a detailed Editorial Commentary detailing variants between the autographs and printed editions.
PERFORMING EDITIONS includes publications such as vocal scores, chorus
parts, and libretti, plus full and miniature scores of excerpts (such as overtures) from longer works. Some are based on reprints of the original 19th century editions supervised by Sullivan himself; others are completely new editions. All receive the same editorial care and attention as the SULLIVAN EDITION.
(3) HIRE MATERIAL
Orchestral parts for all of Sullivan's works published by R. Clyde (and for many other works by Sullivan, as well as major classical composers from Bach to Vivaldi) are available on hire from the publisher. In some cases, vocal scores, chorus parts and libretti are also available on hire.
